Setup guide — updated August 2026

IPTV Setup UK — complete guide for every device.

Setting up IPTV takes under ten minutes on every device. The steps are the same across all platforms: install a player app, enter your subscription credentials, and you’re watching. This guide covers every major UK device type with the specific steps that actually work in 2026.

Updated August 2026
Devices covered 6 platforms
Time to set up 5–10 minutes
Prerequisites

Before you start — what you need

Every IPTV setup across every device requires the same three things. Have these ready before you follow any of the device sections below.

A compatible device

Fire TV Stick, Android TV, Android phone, iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Samsung/LG Smart TV, Windows PC, Mac or MAG box. All are supported. If unsure, message us with your device model before you start.

Your subscription credentials

We send these via WhatsApp the moment your subscription activates: a username, a password and a server URL (Xtream Codes) — or an M3U URL. Have these to hand before starting. They are case-sensitive.

Stable broadband (10 Mbps+)

10 Mbps minimum for HD. 25 Mbps for 4K UHD. The key is stability — a consistent 10 Mbps is better than an unstable 50 Mbps. Most UK fibre broadband exceeds the minimum comfortably. Use Ethernet where possible.

Setup by device

IPTV setup instructions — choose your device

Each section covers the specific steps for that device. Follow the one that matches what you own. The core process — install app, enter credentials, watch — is the same everywhere.

Fire TV Stick

~10 minutes

The Firestick requires a one-time setup step to allow apps from outside the Amazon App Store. Once done, it only needs doing again if Amazon resets it after a Fire OS update. App: TiviMate (best) or IPTV Smarters Pro (simpler for first-timers).

1
Go to Settings → My Fire TV → Developer Options and toggle Apps from Unknown Sources to ON.
If Developer Options isn’t showing: go to My Fire TV → About and click the Fire TV Stick name 7 times.
2
From the home screen go to Find → Search, search for Downloader and install it (orange icon). Open it and allow storage access.
3
In Downloader, enter 540646 for TiviMate or 6468112 for IPTV Smarters Pro. Download and install. Tap Delete once installed to remove the APK.
4
Open the app. Choose Xtream Codes login. Enter your server URL, username and password exactly as received — they are case-sensitive. Your channels and EPG will load within 30–60 seconds.
5
Find the installed app at Home → Your Apps & Channels → See All. Pin it to your home screen: highlight it, press the menu button on your remote, select Move to front.
Amazon resets Unknown Sources after updates

After any Fire OS update, Amazon silently turns Apps from Unknown Sources back to OFF. If your IPTV app stops loading after a Firestick update, return to Step 1 and re-enable it.

Android phone / tablet / Android TV / Google TV

~5 minutes

Android devices are the simplest setup of any platform. On certified Android TV or Google TV devices (Mecool, Chromecast, Nvidia Shield), TiviMate and IPTV Smarters install directly from Google Play with no sideloading required. App recommendation: TiviMate for Android TV, IPTV Smarters Pro for phones and tablets.

1
Open Google Play Store on your device.
2
Search for TiviMate (Android TV) or IPTV Smarters Pro (phones/tablets) and install the app.
3
Open the app and select Add Playlist → Xtream Codes API. Enter your server URL, username and password exactly as received.
4
Your channel list and EPG will load automatically. Browse Live TV and confirm your channels are visible.

For a full comparison of IPTV player apps for Android, including XCIPTV and GSE, see our player guide.

Samsung Smart TV (Tizen) & LG Smart TV (webOS)

~5 minutes

Samsung and LG Smart TVs can run IPTV directly without any additional hardware. App recommendation: IPTV Smarters Pro (available in both TV app stores on most models) or Smart IPTV (~£5.49 one-off per device).

1
On your Smart TV home screen, open the App Store (Samsung Smart Hub or LG Content Store).
2
Search for IPTV Smarters Pro and install it. If not available on your specific TV model, search for Smart IPTV instead.
3
Open the app. Select Add New User → Xtream Codes API. Enter your server URL, username and password.
4
Your channel list will load. If using Smart IPTV, you may be asked to register your TV’s MAC address — send it to us via WhatsApp and we’ll activate it within minutes.
App not in your TV’s store?

App Store availability varies by TV year and region. If neither IPTV Smarters nor Smart IPTV appears in your store, message us with your TV model — we’ll confirm the best option for your specific television.

iPhone / iPad / Apple TV

~5 minutes

Apple devices run IPTV players available directly from the App Store — no sideloading, no developer mode, no restrictions. App recommendation: GSE Smart IPTV or IPTV Smarters Pro (both available on the Apple App Store).

1
Open the Apple App Store on your iPhone, iPad or Apple TV.
2
Search for GSE Smart IPTV or IPTV Smarters Pro and install your preferred app.
3
Open the app. Select Remote Playlists → Add M3U URL (for M3U) or Xtream Codes login. Enter your credentials exactly as received.
4
Your channels and EPG load automatically. On Apple TV, use the Siri Remote to navigate — both apps are optimised for tvOS.

Windows PC & Mac

~5 minutes

IPTV on a computer works well for desktop viewing or as a secondary screen. App recommendation: IPTV Smarters Pro — available on the Microsoft Store (Windows) and Mac App Store (macOS). No sideloading required on either platform.

1
Windows: Open the Microsoft Store, search for IPTV Smarters Pro and install it.
Mac: Open the Mac App Store, search for IPTV Smarters Pro and install it.
2
Open the app and select Add New User → Xtream Codes API. Enter your server URL, username and password.
3
Your channel list and EPG load automatically. Use the Live TV section to browse channels.
Alternative for Windows

VLC Media Player can play M3U playlists directly: open VLC, go to Media → Open Network Stream and paste your M3U URL. This is useful for quick testing but VLC lacks an EPG, favourites or channel organisation.

MAG box & Formuler

~5 minutes

MAG boxes connect directly to your IPTV provider’s Stalker Portal — no app to install. Formuler boxes use the MyTVOnline 2 launcher which works similarly. Both require a Stalker Portal URL and your device’s MAC address. Message us with your MAC address and we’ll send you the portal URL and activate your device.

1
Find your device’s MAC address: on a MAG box it’s printed on the label underneath the device, or shown in Settings → System Information. Send it to us via WhatsApp.
2
We activate your MAC address on our server and send you the Stalker Portal URL.
3
MAG box: Go to Settings → Servers → Portals. Enter the portal URL in Portal 1 field. Save and restart.
Formuler: Open MyTVOnline 2 → Add Provider → enter the portal URL.
4
The box loads your channel list and EPG automatically from the portal. No credentials to type — the MAC address identifies your subscription.
Login formats

Xtream Codes, M3U and Stalker Portal — what’s the difference?

Your provider will supply credentials in one of these three formats. Here’s what each one means and when to use it.

Alternative

M3U URL

Single playlist URL

A single link that contains your entire channel list as a text playlist. Simpler to share, but less reliable for large channel lists and requires a separate EPG URL. Works with every IPTV player app. Use Xtream Codes where available.

MAG / Formuler only

Stalker Portal

Portal URL
Device MAC address (registered)

Used exclusively with MAG boxes and Formuler devices. Your device’s MAC address is registered against the portal and acts as your subscription identifier. No username or password required — the hardware identifies you.

Optimisation — six things that actually improve IPTV quality

These are the adjustments that make the most measurable difference to stream stability and picture quality in a UK home setup.

01

Use Ethernet where possible

A wired connection eliminates Wi-Fi as a variable. The MAG box, Mecool KM2 Plus and Formuler Z11 all have built-in Ethernet. For a Firestick, a micro-USB to Ethernet adapter costs around £10 and is worthwhile if you have a cable run available.

02

Switch to 5GHz Wi-Fi

If Wi-Fi is your only option, use the 5GHz band instead of 2.4GHz. Most modern routers broadcast both. The 5GHz band is faster and significantly less congested — especially in flats and terraced houses where 2.4GHz channels overlap with neighbours.

03

Set video buffer size in TiviMate

In TiviMate: go to Settings → Player → Buffer Size and increase it to 10–15 seconds. This gives the app more room to absorb minor connection fluctuations without dropping to a loading screen. Doesn’t affect latency noticeably for live sport.

04

Close background apps on Firestick

Hold the Home button on your Firestick remote to open the App Switcher. Close all background apps before launching your IPTV player. The Firestick’s 2GB RAM fills up with Fire OS background processes — clearing them before streaming improves performance noticeably.

05

Schedule EPG updates overnight

In TiviMate’s settings, set the EPG update to run once overnight rather than manually. This keeps your programme guide accurate without consuming bandwidth during viewing hours. In IPTV Smarters, re-adding the playlist weekly achieves the same effect.

06

Restart your router weekly

UK broadband routers accumulate fragmented connections and DNS cache over time. A weekly router restart — overnight when not in use — keeps your connection performing at its rated speed and reduces the kind of gradual slowdown that causes unexplained IPTV degradation.

Fixes

Troubleshooting IPTV setup issues

These are the five most common problems during and after setup. Work through them before contacting support — most resolve in under two minutes.

Issue 01

Credentials not working — “wrong username or password”

Usernames and passwords are case-sensitive. Copy-paste them directly from the WhatsApp message rather than typing them manually. Check for a space at the beginning or end of the field — mobile keyboards sometimes add one. If the error persists, message us and we’ll verify the credentials on our end.

Issue 02

Buffering or stream keeps pausing

Check your broadband speed (fast.com) — you need a stable 10 Mbps for HD and 25 Mbps for 4K. Switch from 2.4GHz to 5GHz Wi-Fi, or connect via Ethernet. On Firestick, close all background apps via the App Switcher before streaming. If buffering only happens during live sport, your provider’s servers may be under peak load.

Issue 03

EPG is blank or showing wrong programme titles

In TiviMate: Settings → Playlists → your playlist → Force EPG Update. In IPTV Smarters: remove and re-add the playlist using the same credentials. If still blank after 2 minutes, the EPG source may have moved — message us and we’ll send the updated EPG URL.

Issue 04

IPTV app won’t open or crashes on launch

On Firestick: go to Settings → Applications → Manage Installed Applications → select the app → Clear Cache → Clear Data. Re-open. Also check that Apps from Unknown Sources is still enabled — Amazon may have reset it after a Fire OS update. If the app still won’t open, uninstall and reinstall using the Downloader code.

Issue 05

Channel list loaded but most channels show “offline”

This is almost always a credentials issue. Re-open the app’s playlist settings and confirm the server URL, username and password are all correct. Check there is no trailing space after the URL. If a handful of specific channels are offline but most work, that’s a stream-level issue — contact us with the channel name and we’ll investigate.

Issue 06

Still stuck — nothing above has fixed it

Message us on WhatsApp with your device name, the app you installed, and a description of what’s happening. We set up IPTV on hundreds of devices and can usually identify the issue within two messages. We can also walk you through the entire setup live if needed.

Questions

Common IPTV setup questions

Not answered here? Message us — we reply the same day.

How long does IPTV setup take?

Most setups take 5–10 minutes from receiving credentials to watching the first channel. The Fire TV Stick takes slightly longer (~10 minutes) because of the sideloading steps. Android TV, iPhone and Smart TV setups typically complete in under 5 minutes. If you run into issues, contact us on WhatsApp and we can usually resolve them within two messages.

What is the difference between M3U and Xtream Codes login?

Xtream Codes provides a username, a password and a server URL — the recommended format because the app automatically separates your live channels, VOD library and EPG. M3U is a single URL containing the whole playlist. Xtream Codes is more reliable for large channel lists and gives better EPG integration. All IPTV UK Now subscriptions are delivered in Xtream Codes format, with an M3U URL also available on request.

Do I need to install a separate app, or does IPTV just work?

You need a player app — a programme that displays your channel list and EPG. The app is free on every platform. It does not contain channels itself; it loads your subscription from the credentials we send you. Recommended apps: TiviMate or IPTV Smarters Pro on Firestick and Android TV; GSE Smart IPTV or IPTV Smarters Pro on iPhone and Apple TV; Smart IPTV or IPTV Smarters on Samsung and LG TVs. See our full IPTV player guide.

Can I set up IPTV on more than one device?

Each standard plan includes one simultaneous stream. You can install the app on multiple devices and use the same credentials on each — but only one device can actively stream at a time. If you need multiple screens running simultaneously, message us before subscribing and we’ll confirm multi-connection plan options.

My subscription credentials aren’t working — what should I check?

First: credentials are case-sensitive. Copy-paste them directly rather than typing manually. Second: check there is no trailing space after the URL or password fields. Third: confirm you are entering the server URL including the port number (e.g. http://server.com:8080). If all three check out and it still doesn’t work, message us on WhatsApp with your device and the error message — we’ll verify on our end within minutes.

Do I need a VPN to use IPTV UK Now?

No. A VPN is not required and does not improve stream quality. Some users choose to use one for privacy. Be aware that the Premier League holds dynamic blocking orders requiring UK ISPs to block specific stream addresses during live matches — a VPN routing through a non-UK server may circumvent these blocks but does not change the legal status of the content being watched.
