IPTV on Firestick — the complete UK setup guide.
The Fire TV Stick is the most popular device for IPTV in the UK — affordable, plug-and-play, and it works with every major IPTV player. This guide covers the full setup from scratch, explains the parts Amazon makes deliberately awkward, and walks you through the apps worth using.

Which Fire TV Stick works best for IPTV?
Every Firestick model supports IPTV, but performance varies. If you already have one, use it. If you are buying specifically for IPTV, the 4K Max is worth the extra £20.
Fire TV Stick Lite
Budget option. Good for secondary bedrooms or older HD televisions. Sufficient for most IPTV streams in HD. Not recommended if your TV is 4K.
Fire TV Stick (3rd Gen)
Handles HD IPTV streams smoothly. Wi-Fi 6 reduces buffering on busy home networks. The right choice for most UK living rooms with an HD television.
Fire TV Stick 4K
Handles 4K IPTV streams cleanly. Good balance of price and performance for households with a 4K television. More than capable for any IPTV player.
Fire TV Stick 4K Max
Fastest Firestick available. Wi-Fi 6E and extra RAM mean less buffering, faster channel switching and smoother EPG loading — all areas where lower models can lag.
How to set up IPTV on Firestick — step by step
Five steps. The first three are the parts Amazon makes awkward on purpose — the guide below explains why and gets you past them cleanly.
Enable Apps from Unknown Sources
Amazon restricts its Firestick to apps from its own store by default — because it earns revenue from those apps and prefers you to stay inside its ecosystem. IPTV players like IPTV Smarters Pro and TiviMate are not in the Amazon App Store, so you need to unlock the ability to install them manually. This is called sideloading, and it is completely legal.
- From the Firestick home screen, go to Settings (gear icon, top right)
- Select My Fire TV
- Select Developer Options
- Toggle Apps from Unknown Sources to ON
- Toggle ADB Debugging to ON
Go to My Fire TV → About and click on the Fire TV Stick name seven times in a row. You will see a message that developer mode has been unlocked. Then go back to My Fire TV and Developer Options will appear.
After every Fire OS update, Amazon silently resets Apps from Unknown Sources back to OFF. If your IPTV player stops opening after a Firestick update, return to this step and re-enable it.
Install the Downloader app
The Downloader app is your bridge — it is available in the Amazon App Store (legitimately) and lets you download apps from outside the store. You only need to install it once.
- From the home screen, go to Find → Search (magnifying glass)
- Type Downloader and select it from the results
- It appears as an orange icon — install it
- Open Downloader after installation
- Allow it to access your files and storage when prompted
Amazon occasionally de-prioritises Downloader in search results. Try searching from the Apps section of the home screen rather than the main search bar, or navigate to the App Store directly and search there.
Download and install your IPTV player
Inside Downloader, enter the code for the app you want. The code saves you typing a full web address — Downloader converts it to the correct download URL automatically. Use one of these two:
- Open Downloader and enter the code in the URL bar
- Downloader will fetch the APK file — tap Download
- When it finishes, tap Install
- If Amazon shows a warning about installing from an unknown source, tap Install anyway — this is expected and safe
- Once installed, tap Delete to remove the APK (the app itself remains installed)
If this is your first time with IPTV on a Firestick, install IPTV Smarters Pro — it is simpler to configure. If you want more control over your EPG and channel layout, install TiviMate (free to use, with optional premium features). See the comparison section below for full details.
Enter your IPTV subscription credentials
Open the IPTV player you installed. You will be asked how you want to connect to your service. Your provider will have sent you either Xtream Codes details or an M3U URL — use whichever they gave you.
Xtream Codes (recommended): Your provider supplies a username, a password and a server URL. In IPTV Smarters, select Load Your Playlist or File/URL → Xtream Codes API and enter all three. In TiviMate, go to Add Playlist → Xtream Codes and do the same.
M3U URL: Some providers supply a single M3U link instead. Paste it into the M3U URL field in either app. M3U is slightly less reliable for large channel lists, and EPG data may need to be added separately.
- Open IPTV Smarters Pro or TiviMate
- Choose Xtream Codes or M3U URL depending on what your provider sent
- Enter your credentials exactly as received — usernames and passwords are case-sensitive
- The app will connect and load your full channel list and EPG
We send your username, password and server URL over WhatsApp as soon as your subscription activates. If anything isn’t working during setup, message us on the same thread and we’ll help you through it.
Organise your channels and start watching
Your channels and EPG are now loaded. Before you start watching, take five minutes to organise — it makes daily use much smoother on a Firestick remote.
- Mark your most-watched channels as favourites so they appear at the top of your list
- Check the EPG (programme guide) — it should show 7 days of schedules. If it is empty, go to Settings in your app and trigger a manual EPG update
- In TiviMate, set your start channel so the app opens straight to a channel rather than a menu
- In IPTV Smarters, explore the Sports category to verify the channels you care about are loading correctly
- Test a 4K channel if your Firestick and television support it — confirm that quality is set to match your connection speed in app settings
That is the full setup complete. If anything is not working as expected, the troubleshooting section below covers the most common problems.
IPTV Smarters Pro vs TiviMate — which to use on Firestick
Both apps work well on a Fire TV Stick with IPTV. The choice comes down to how much you want to customise your setup. You can also install both and switch between them using the same credentials.
IPTV Smarters Pro
Free to download and use
TiviMate
Free core · Premium ~£5 one-off (recommended)

Troubleshooting IPTV on Firestick
These are the five problems that come up most often. Most have a quick fix — work through them in order before assuming the issue is with your subscription or provider.
Buffering or freezing streams
Check your internet speed — you need a stable 10 Mbps minimum for HD and 25 Mbps for 4K. Switch your Firestick from 2.4GHz to 5GHz Wi-Fi in Firestick Network settings. Close any background apps by holding the Home button → App Switcher → close all running apps. If buffering only happens during live sport, your provider may be experiencing peak-hour server load — contact them.
Apps from Unknown Sources keeps resetting to OFF
Amazon resets this setting automatically after every Fire OS update — this is intentional on their part, not a glitch. After any Firestick software update, return to Settings → My Fire TV → Developer Options and re-enable Apps from Unknown Sources. Your installed apps remain on the device; you just need to re-enable the permission.
EPG is blank or not loading
In TiviMate: go to Settings → Playlists → select your playlist → Force EPG update. In IPTV Smarters: remove the playlist, re-add it with the same credentials, and allow it to load fully. If still blank, your provider’s EPG URL may have changed — message them to confirm the correct EPG address.
IPTV player app won’t open or crashes immediately
Go to Settings → Applications → Manage Installed Applications → [app name] → Clear Cache → Clear Data and restart the app. If that does not work, uninstall and reinstall using Downloader with the same code. Also check that Apps from Unknown Sources is still enabled — Amazon may have reset it after an update.
Can’t find the IPTV app in Amazon Search
Amazon suppresses sideloaded IPTV apps from appearing in Firestick search results. Instead, find installed apps by going to Home → Your Apps & Channels → See All. Your installed IPTV player will be listed there. You can also move it to the home screen for quicker access by highlighting it and pressing the menu button on your remote.
Specific channels not loading or returning an error
Try a different channel first — if most channels work and one specific stream does not, the issue is likely with that individual stream rather than your setup. Contact your provider with the specific channel name. If most channels are failing, check that your subscription credentials are entered correctly (they are case-sensitive) and that your plan has not expired.
Common questions about IPTV on Firestick
Stuck on something not covered in the guide? Message us on WhatsApp — we walk every customer through setup personally.
Does IPTV work on all Fire TV Stick models?
Yes. Every model in the Amazon Fire TV range supports IPTV — from the Lite through to the Fire TV Cube. The Fire TV Stick 4K Max delivers the smoothest experience due to its extra RAM and Wi-Fi 6E support, but any model from the 2nd-generation Fire TV Stick onwards handles HD IPTV without issues. If you plan to stream in 4K, use a Firestick 4K or 4K Max.
Is setting up IPTV on a Firestick legal?
Enabling developer mode, sideloading apps, and installing IPTV players on a Fire TV Stick are all entirely legal. The legality question applies to the IPTV service you connect to, not the device or the apps. For a full explanation of where UK law stands on IPTV, see our guide to IPTV and UK law.
What is the difference between IPTV Smarters and TiviMate?
Both are IPTV player apps that work with the same subscription credentials. IPTV Smarters Pro is free, simpler to set up and well suited to first-time users. TiviMate has a better EPG display, faster channel switching and more customisation — preferred by users who want more control over their setup. TiviMate’s best features require a one-off ~£5 premium unlock. You can install both and use the same credentials on each.
Why can’t I find the IPTV app in the Amazon App Store?
IPTV Smarters Pro and TiviMate are not in the Amazon App Store — this is why the sideloading process in this guide is necessary. Amazon restricts its store to apps it has approved, and third-party IPTV players are not part of that. You install them via the Downloader app using the codes in Step 3 of this guide. This is safe, legal and the standard method used by IPTV customers on Firestick worldwide.
How do I find my installed IPTV app after setup?
Amazon does not automatically add sideloaded apps to the Firestick home screen. Go to Home → Your Apps & Channels → See All and you will find it there. To pin it to your home screen, highlight the app, press the three-line menu button on your remote and select Move to front.
Do I need a VPN for IPTV on Firestick?
No — a VPN is not required to use IPTV on a Firestick. Some users choose to use one for privacy or because their ISP throttles streaming traffic. Be aware that the Premier League holds court orders requiring UK ISPs to block certain IPTV stream addresses during live matches — a VPN routed outside the UK may bypass these blocks, but this does not change the legal status of the content being streamed.
